For the American bicentennial, a contest was launched for various commemorative coins including the quarter (25 cent). The winner was Jack L. Ahr’s image of a colonial drummer with a torch of victory surrounded by 13 stars representing the original 13 States. Nearly every American knows the feeling of getting one of these coins back for change as a child and saving it.
