The Mercury dime is an American 10 cent coin struck by the US Mint from 1916-1945. Designed by Adolph Weinman, the obverse depicts Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. While it is officially called the Winged Liberty dime (or Winged Liberty Head dime), it got its common name from a popular confusion that the image depicted the Roman god Mercury.
