This design of the 50 centavo coin was struck in Mexico from 1970 – 1983. The reverse design is a portrait of Cuauhtemoc, the last Aztec Emperor who ruled from 1520 -1521. Cuauhtemoc was the cousin of Moctezuma II, better known in the present day as Montezuma.
