1992 is the first year the 5 centavo coin was minted as the Peso convertible currency began in 1992. The obverse features the Sol de Mayo (Sun of May). The Sol de Mayo’s form represents Inti, the Incan God of the Sun. May refers to the May Revolution which took place in the week from 18 to 25 May, 1810, which marked the beginning of the independence from the Spanish Empire for the countries that were then part of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata.
