Güayabo is a word used in Colombia that means hanover. The dizziness by alcohol isn’t something unique from here, but the word is. What is Güayabo then? What is unique about it? In the process the answers were more intuitive, so thinking about it verbally made evident my decisions, even though it is a posteriori process. A hangover gives a ugly sensation of dizziness, instability and discomfort. But in the moment of making the piece I was thinking about how to appropriate new elements, half tones used in the print language and colors that I hadn't implemented until now. However all of this is meaningless if i wasn’t working reciprocally with my esthetical doubts and concerns. I had been thinking that the semantic content an abstract piece could have, maybe more close to musical expression because it evokes feelings and sensations more easily, but even a song needs lyrics as an illustration needs figures to communicate a more concrete idea. So I asked myself vaguely if that could translate into an abstract considering the properties more evocative than descriptive. Semantically charge an emotion? It could be, being fair it had been done before, a hearth evokes love of friendship. However, with all that in my head, a pair of beers and a song called “Guayabito” ringing while I was drawing, this piece spawned, it plants in retrospective new paths for me to explore. Enjoy.
